    Philodendron Erubescens

Philodendron Erubescens is a member of the Araceae family and is one of the most exotic plants to keep.

The Philodendron Erubescens plant is one of the 400 plants belonging to the Philodendron specie. If you still haven’t figured out which plant we are talking about, let us make things simple.

Philodendron Erubescens commonly goes by the name of Red Emerald. Other common names include blushing philodendron, red-leaf philodendron, and even imperial red philodendron. Keeping these plants healthy can be a bit of a challenge.

The blushing philodendrons aren’t sturdy and can easily fall dead without proper maintenance. That’s why we are here to help you.

The guide below will help you care for your red emeralds and keep them alive for a long long time. Let’s go!

    Philodendron Erubescens Yellow leaves

This problem pops up when you water your plants a little too much.

An overwatered plant possibly gets yellow leaves because of the root rot. Another possible reason for this condition is the oversaturated leaves. Both these problems arrive because of excessive water. If your plant receives excessive sunlight then too it can display this problem

The remedy to this? Simply move your plant to a place where its exposure to the sun lessens. Also, cut down the watering. Only water the plant when the soil is reasonably dry.

    Philodendron Erubescens Brown Leaves

Opposite to yellow leaves are brown leaves. This problem shows up when the plant is dehydrated. Simply increasing the water quantity will resolve the issue. However, make sure there’s enough room for drainage else your plant will be a victim to root rot.

Philodendron Erubescens Dark Leaf Spots or Edges

If the water quantity is right but the plant gets too much sun, you’ll see dark spots on the leaves. Or the edges may become dark.

The solution is simple. Just move the plant away to somewhere less sunny. Fungal diseases can also cause this problem so be sure to check for that as well just to be safe.

What are the ways to keep the Philodendron Erubescens plant healthy and well

Now that you know the problems, let’s see the parameters that will keep your lovely philodendron erubescens plants healthy and well.

Negligence with blushing philo can be harmful. It’s not that skipping one day of care will take away the plant’s life. But that’s pretty much the margin. Leave the plant unattended for a few days and you may lose it.

So, be very careful with your dear philo red emeralds if you want them to be with you for long.

    Watering Your Philodendron Erubescens

Too much water is deadly for your erubescens. These plants can do okay if they are underwatered, but excessive water will take away their life.

Ensure that you only water the plant when the soil is dry. Plus, have a sizable opening at the bottom for excess water to drain away.

    Temperature and humidity

Philo erubescens love warmth and a moist environment. They are cold averse. This is true for all philodendron erubescens varieties. The ideal temperature range for this plant is 55 to 80 Fahrenheit.

    Fertilizer

Indoor plants can’t get all the nutrition with just sunlight and water. You’ll need external assistance from fertilizers.

Thankfully, caring for philodendron erubescens is easy when it comes to fertilizers. Just fertilize them a couple of times per month during the spring and summer seasons and you are good to go.

    Pruning

You can’t let this plant grow wild indoors.

While philodendrons don’t need excessive pruning, you’ll have to do it when the plant gets too large. Usually, springs and falls are ideal pruning times.

Though, if you see the need to prune excessive yellow or dark leaves, that’s perfectly fine as well.

    Propagating Philodendron Erubescens

Propagating in the plant world means growing new plants of a specie. There are two methods to do that- sexual reproduction and non-sexual reproduction.

Here we shall tell you the 5 steps of philodendron propagation via the non-sexual method:

    • Fill up a new container with soil conducive to philo erubescens’s growth.
    • Take a stem that has several aerial roots.
    • Trim off the stem with gardening shears.
    • Put the stem in the container you made. Don’t place it under direct sunlight though.
    • Water the soil and take routine care of the plant.

That’s the simple way to propagate Philodendron Erubescens. It’s not a complicated process at all. Just ensure that the new pot has a good drainage mechanism or it’ll rot the roots.

What are some common diseases of this plant? And what kinds of pests are a threat to it?

Now, red emeralds can catch diseases from external threats.

Sometimes it’s the pests and sometimes it’s the microbes. Some common pests that can attack your precious philo erubescens are aphids, mealybugs, and white flies. It’s best if you can detect signs of pest infestation earliest so that you can get rid of the problem with minimum damage.

If there’s a pest infestation, the best remedy is to mix dish soap with a gallon of water and gently spray the mixture over the leaves.

Plants can also catch fungus. This can also turn your plant leaves brown or yellow as discussed earlier.

The best way to tackle the problem is to search for signs of fungus. If that’s the case, apply some fungicide and start to water the plants on the roots and not the leaves. That shall take care of the problem for you.

    Final Words

Blushing philos or red emeralds are an amazing specie of plant. They can truly make your gardens look exotic and lavish. However, the secret to their long life is their maintenance regime. Handle that right and your philo erubescens can live for up to 20 years or more.

Hopefully, this article will have answered all your questions about maintaining your erubescens!
